Shoot Out for BOHO !

In the design world, bohemian, or boho refers to a state of mind regarding design that is individual, romantic and free spirited. This style often is referred as hippie-chic, or even hobo-chic. Creating a boho chic living space means creating an absolutely different and your personalized atmosphere.

Actually, the best feature of this style is that we can use any art piece, our own work and mix colors as we wish. Bohemian style, often resembles some cool interiors like Moroccan, Indian, etc. Bohemian decorating is for those who want their homes full of life, culture and interesting items for all the world to see. It flies in the face of modern sensibilities and embraces the carefree, the relaxed and the unusual. That said, bohemian-style rooms tend to have certain similarities-they share some of the same features yet no two are completely alike.

I am going to give you some main features, tips and tricks for you to welcome this style in your lives.

There are no rules when it comes to bohemian decorating, yet warm earthy colors are quite common, as are metallic. Think brown, terracotta, gold and other warm colors. Jewel tones like saturated purple, fiery orange and electric blue often make appearances in accessories like tapestries and art. The key to using color in bohemian decorating is to think warm. White has no place in a Bohemian room except yes walls ceilings and floors.

Be sure to mix lots of patterns and do not be afraid to use colors that wouldn’t necessarily go together in a conventional way. Layer throws on top of furniture or try hanging rugs and tapestries to the wall.

2. Materials

The key to using materials in this style of room is to mix and match. Use natural materials like burlap and sisal and mix them with silk and chenille’s. The materials should have a slightly worn look. Fringes or 3D textures also work great.

3. Furniture

Bohemian furniture cannot be bought at just an old store. The furniture is collected overtime. Every piece has a thought, an emotion or a story behind it. pieces belong to different cultures, cities and styles. Second hand and vintage items are right at home in these rooms. Shapes and sizes are not nearly important. You can take a furniture designed through Mies Van De Rohe and can accompany it with a Gaudi designed piece, it will work in a bohemian styled room.

4. Accessories

Accessories in bohemian rooms should tell the story of the people who live there. Ornate boxes, vintage bottles, maps and mismatched china- you name it. Bohemians travel so the items in a room should look like they have been collected from all over the world. And keep in mind that just because bohemian style is a little offbeat doesn’t mean it cannot be glamours. Do not be afraid to use drippy crystal chandeliers and ornate gold mirrors.
