Less is More !

A phrase which has changed my life in a lot of aspects and not just design. A small effort to spread this across.

If somebody asks me “What is the meaning of “Less is More” to you? My answer would be – “Good design comes from simplicity and clarity”

First founded in print in Andrea Del Sarto, 1855, a poem by Robert Browning is a 19th century proverbial phrase which is famously associated with the German Architect and Furniture Designer, Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe who is one of the founders of modern architecture and a proponent of simplicity.

It has been easily explained by Joshua Fields Millburn & Ryan Nicodemus when they asked a question : Is less really more? If so, is more actually less? They said “ We’d suggest that the answer to both is yes.

Owning less stuff, focusing on fewer tasks, and having less in the way, has given us more time, more freedom, and more meaning in our lives. Working less allows us to contribute more, grow more, and pursue our passions much more than before. Similarly, having more time causes less frustration and less stress, more freedom adds less anxiety and less worry, and more meaning in our lives allows us to focus far less on life’s excess in favor of what’s truly important.

So, more is less? Yes, more or less” One of the absolute rules of good design “Less is more”. Try it out. It works.
